BULLS FALL IN NINTH TO SYRACUSE, 3-2
(Syracuse, NY) Henry Mateo singled in a run in a two-run second, but it was Syracuse that stormed back on Sunday in a 3-2 ninth inning win over the Bulls.
Durham took advantage of two walks in the second to score two runs against Marcos Estrada on a Mateo (2-for-3) single and a Reid Brignac sac fly. That was all Durham would get though as the Bulls didn't get another runner past second base after the second inning.
Syracuse took advantage of a Reid Brignac leadoff error in the fifth to get on the board when Gustavo Molina singled home Seth Bynum from third with two out. In the sixth, Brad Eldred hit a 3-2 breaking ball over the left field wall for his 16th homer to tie the game at two.
The game remained tied until the ninth. Joe Bateman hit back-to-back hitters with one out. After Molina flew out to center, Norris Hopper singled to right-center, giving Syracuse the one-run win.
Durham fell four games behind Gwinnett in the South Division with 14 games left. The Bulls are 1.5 games ahead of Syracuse in the wild card race and four games in front of Toledo and Norfolk.
