BULLS SCHOOLED ON EDUCATION DAY
Charlotte's offense pounded the Bulls' pitching staff for a season-high 13 hits, including four home runs, while the Durham hitters were held to a single run as the Bulls lost 9-1 Wednesday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Knights posted all nine of their runs in the third and fourth innings with seven coming off Bulls starting pitcher Carlos Hernandez, who pitched 3.2 innings, picking up the loss and moving to 0-1 on the season. Reliever Jason Childers came in for Hernandez in the fourth and allowed the other two runs.
The nine runs given up by Durham's pitching staff is the most so far this season giving the Bulls their largest margin of defeat this year. The four long balls given up are also a season-high for the Durham pitchers.
The Bulls' lone score came in the second half of the fourth on an Elliot Johnson force out, scoring Justin Ruggiano from third. In all, Durham's offense was held to six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts while leaving 12 runners stranded.
With the loss, the Bulls split their two game series with Charlotte and move to 12-7 on the year. The Columbus Clippers come to town Thursday to begin a four-game series against Durham.
